Dünyanın en çok ziyaret edilen sitelerinden biri olan Wikipedia internet ansiklopedisine erişim Türkiye'de durduruldu. Nedenini Ulaştırma,Denizcilik ve Haberleşme Bakanlığı açıkladı. Bakanlıktan yapılan açıklamaya göre "Türkiye'yi terör örgütleriyle aynı zeminde gösteren ifadelerin yer alması. " Bu içeriklerin kaldırılması için gerekli girişimler yapılmış fakat sonuç alınamamış.
Wikipedia sitesine girmek isteyenler 'Sayfa bulunamadı ancak şunları yapabilirsiniz:
Kayıtlı kopyasına bak.' ifadesiyle veya başka hatalarla karşılaşılabiliyor ve Wikipedia'ya Türkiye'den erişim sağlanamıyor. BTK'dan Wikipedia sorgulatıldığında "5651 sayılı Kanun uyarınca yapılan teknik inceleme ve hukuki değerlendirme sonucunda bu İnternet sitesi (wikipedia.org) hakkındaki Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu 'nın 29/04/2017 tarih ve 490.05.01.2017.-182198 sayılı kararına istinaden Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu tarafından idari tedbir uygulanmaktadır.' ifadesine ulaşılıyor.
Daha önce Facebook,Twitter ve diğer bazı sosyal medya sitelerine de erişim yasağı ve yavaşlatma uygulanmıştı ve bir süre sonra bu yasaklar kaldırılmıştı fakat zaman zaman yine bu tür yasaklar uygulanıyor.
